Introducing one of our featured 2015 Phenomenal Faces of Greatness: Yolaine Joseph Sykes...
Yolaine Joseph Sykes was born in Montreal, Quebec (father is Haitian, mother is from Alabama), but she was raised by her mother in Detroit, Michigan.
She graduated from Cass Technical HS in Detroit in 1987 as a Fine Arts major; where her love and appreciation for The Arts began; she also graduated from Howard University ((1991) with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism, minoring in Education. After living in NY for three years, Yolaine got married and moved to Birmingham, Alabama (home to her mother and ex-husband). She later earned a BS (Education) from Miles College, MA from Alabama State University (English & Language Arts) and an M.Ed. from Grand Canyon University. Her work experience consists of teaching Theater, Speech and Literature in Birmingham City Schools since 1995, in addition to being an adjunct professor at Miles College since 2009. Currently, she teaches Literature courses at both institutions.
After going through a divorce in 2008, she started her own business Ladybug Creations, LLC (named after her daughter's nickname), which has a two fold purpose; it specializes in theme parties and natural skin care products. One, Yolaine has always been known for having elaborate parties for her son and daughter and she often decorates accessories with "bling", hence our slogan "Ladybug Creations...we bling almost anything!". Recently, Yolaine got married to a life long friend; she made all the centerpieces and bridal party bouquets! Two, her children also suffered from eczema, which inspired her to use her grandmother's natural remedies to treat them. This prompted the creation of Y.E.S.- Yolaine's Exfoliating Scrubs.
Presently, this phenomenal lady is working during the summer with her Theatre program, Dream Keepers Productions. She focuses on bringing dance, acting, and singing lessons to children that may not otherwise be exposed to the Arts. Yolaine operates via other agencies until she can acquire non-profit status. She is at Hopewell Baptist Church's summer camp this summer until the end of July.
